Dental implants are titanium posts placed in the jawbone to replace the roots of missing teeth. Topped with a custom crown, bridge or denture, they look, feel and work like natural teeth. At Ashbourne Dental & Medical we use premium Straumann, Neodent and MegaGen implant systems, placed by our experienced dental surgeon.
About the treatment
A dental implant is a small, biocompatible titanium screw that is placed into the jawbone where a tooth is missing. Over the following months the bone grows around the implant and fuses with it, creating a strong, stable foundation — just like a natural tooth root. A custom-made crown, bridge or denture is then attached on top.
Unlike removable dentures or traditional bridges, implants do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support and do not move when you eat or speak. Because they stimulate the jawbone, they also help prevent the bone loss and facial changes that often follow tooth loss.
Our implant treatment is led by Dr Jurgis Paulauskas, a dental surgeon who specialises in implantology, bone grafting and sinus lifts, working alongside our prosthodontists who design and fit your final teeth.

How it works

A full examination and panoramic (or 3D) X-ray to check your bone and plan treatment. You receive a written plan and quote.

If needed, damaged teeth are removed and bone grafting or a sinus lift is performed to create a solid base.

The implant is placed under local anaesthetic. It then integrates with the bone over the following months.

Impressions are taken and a custom crown, bridge or denture is made in the laboratory and fitted onto the implant.

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you should feel no pain during treatment. Most patients report mild discomfort for a few days afterwards, which is usually managed with over-the-counter painkillers.
Treatment is usually completed in stages over several months: consultation and planning, implant placement, a healing period while the implant fuses with the bone (typically around three months), and fitting of the final crown.
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, dental implants can last for many years and often a lifetime. The crown on top may need replacing after many years of normal wear.
Often, yes. Bone grafting or a sinus lift can rebuild the bone needed to support an implant. Your surgeon will assess this at your consultation.
