A professional hygiene visit (scale and polish) removes plaque, tartar and stains that brushing cannot. At Ashbourne Dental & Medical our hygienist uses an ultrasonic scaler and E-FLOW air polishing for a deep, comfortable clean — from €15 for eligible patients under the PRSI dental benefit.
About the treatment
Even with careful brushing, plaque and tartar build up in places that are hard to reach. The bacteria, toxins and acids they contain cause tooth decay, gum inflammation, bleeding gums and bad breath. Regular professional hygiene is one of the most important steps in preventive dental care.
During your visit, our hygienist gently removes tartar and plaque with special instruments and an ultrasonic scaler, then polishes your teeth. E-FLOW air polishing removes stains from tea, coffee, wine and tobacco, leaving your teeth smooth and bright. Fluoride varnish can also be applied to strengthen enamel and reduce sensitivity.
Professional hygiene is pain-free and suitable for adults, teenagers and children. Combined with a dental check-up and X-rays, it helps catch problems early — avoiding more complex and expensive treatment later.
